LEONA

LEONA

Leona is a Long Eared Owl that was found by a hunter on February 8, 2018 in the woods in Calverton, NY with a badly fractured left wing. A repair of the fracture was attempted, but unfortunately Leona’s wing did not heal well and amputation was necessary. The horn-like feathers on Leona’s head are actually not her ears. Her ears are on the side of her head!

In the winter, groups of a dozen or more long-eared owls can sometimes be found roosting together in trees. A group of owls is called a parliament.
